Our Story

In 1991 a few students arrived in Bratislava, then Czechoslovakia, with a vision to bring God’s kingdom into the atmosphere of newfound freedom, after the 45 years Communist rule.

The first few years involved running an English school, working in the area of media, and offering business & leadership seminars, and then in 1995 this team of former YWAMers rejoined the organization and formed YWAM Slovakia, registering it as a civic organization.

The vision remained transformation built upon biblical principles for society, and activities now included discipleship & leadership training. Around 1997, doors opened to serve & cooperate with Catholic believers, providing needed discipleship & evangelism opportunities, and week-long family camps were begun. A strong network of contacts among Christian churches and communities was built over the next period, and YWAM Slovakia became the official representative for the 24/7 prayer movement in the nation, and cooperates in the running of a pre-school, a Christian library & board games club.

Since 2005 our team of 8 full time YWAMers and many volunteers work in two locations, Bratislava and Banska Bystrica. In the Banska Bystrica location we have taught courses in university, lead mission trips, and organize Discipleship Training Schools (DTS).
